Walk and Talk: What It Means to Be a Free Father

Updated: Jun 25

In a time when the world questions the role of fathers and the weight of their absence can be felt across generations, Pastor Ron reminded us of something timeless: true fatherhood starts with a relationship with God the Father.

To Be a Father, First Be a SonBefore we can lead, provide, or protect, we must first walk as sons—sons of God the Father. Walking and talking with Him. Spending time in His Word. Listening, praying, receiving correction and encouragement. That relationship is the foundation of all healthy fatherhood.

Free Fathers Walk and Talk—with God and Their ChildrenIt’s not just about being present. It’s about being connected. Real fatherhood happens on slow walks, deep talks, small shared moments. Whether you're a dad, granddad, godfather, uncle, or father figure—your walk matters. Your words matter.

Pastor Ron shared his personal journey. How he lost his father at 14. How he had to become a man far too early. And yet, how God the Father stepped in with value, love, and direction.

What Does a Free Father Do?

He loves.

He values.

e provides.

He protects.

He disciples.

These aren't just duties. They're reflections of who God is to us—and who He calls us to be for our families. A free father listens. He offers a shoulder. He disciplines in love. He corrects after connection.

And above all else, he models what he receives from the Father.

“You can't train your children if you're not trained.”That line stuck with us. Because it’s real. We must be willing to grow. To open our Bibles. To stay in prayer. To humble ourselves before the Father, so we can serve our children with strength, wisdom, and grace.

You Are Not God the FatherOne of the most freeing reminders came at the end. You are not God. You cannot fix everything. You are not your child’s Savior. But you can model godliness. You can provide safety, speak truth, show love—and trust that God will do the rest.

This is the heart of Freedom Hill Church. We believe in families. We believe in restoring what was lost. And today, we’re excited to launch our Free Fathers Ministry—a space for dads, soon-to-be dads, mentors, and men ready to walk this journey together, grounded in faith.

Let’s raise up fathers who walk and talk with God—and with their children.
