A Generous Life: Stewarding What God Has Given You

Updated: Jun 25

Matthew 6:21 says, “Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and your thoughts will be also.”

Family, this isn’t just about finances. It’s about your heart. Your entire walk with God—your freedom in Him—is shaped by how you steward three things: your time, your talent, and your treasure.

We’ve been preaching about this for weeks. Time and talent? Those were part one. Today, we’re diving into the third leg of that journey—your treasure.

Let me be clear: how you handle what God gives you is a spiritual matter. Your generosity—or lack thereof—isn't about your bank account. It’s about the condition of your heart.

God Is Generous—So We Must Be

God is a giver. He gave us life. He gave us Jesus. He gives us grace when we fail and mercy when we fall. He gives you that job, those kids, that partner, that calling.

And hear me now—if He gives it to you, He expects you to steward it.

Stewardship means careful and responsible management of something entrusted to you.Not ownership—management.

You don’t own your gifts. You don’t even own your ministry. Everything belongs to God, and He’s watching how you handle it.

Givers vs. Takers

There are two spirits in this world:

  • The Spirit of Giving, from God

  • And the Spirit of Taking, from the enemy

The taker walks into relationships and churches with the mindset of “what can I get?”The giver walks in with the mindset of “how can I serve?”

Family, I carried that taker spirit for too long. But God doesn’t bless takers—He blesses givers.

The Money Test

Let’s talk plain. You want to know how spiritually mature you are? Look at how you handle money. Do you tithe? Do you sow into the Kingdom? Do you help the poor, the broken, the lost?

Money is mentioned more in the Bible than deliverance. Why? Because Jesus knew—it would be a heart issue.Greed is not just a vice. It’s a block to blessing.

But when you give? When you give generously, freely, joyfully?God multiplies it. He refreshes you.

Proverbs 11:25 – “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Your Slingshot Moment

I said it on Sunday and I’ll say it again: grab your slingshot.Every time you give—your time, your skill, your resources—you’re pulling back that sling against the giants in your life and in someone else’s.

And when that rock hits, it’s not just victory for you, it’s victory for someone who’s still facing their lion, their bear, their debt, their brokenness.

That’s what generosity does—it frees you and someone else.

A Call to Action

This week, ask yourself:

  • Where can I be generous?

  • Who can I serve?

  • What has God given me that I’ve been holding too tightly?

Family, stewardship is worship. It’s your daily act of love. Let’s not just say we follow Jesus. Let’s live like we do—through generosity, through faith, through daily surrender.

And remember: everything we give came from Him first.
